Enlarged Prostate
When the prostate gland of a normal adult whose size is about the size of a walnut or a golf ball increases to the size of a baseball, then the condition is known as enlarged prostate. This increase in the prostate results in the squeezing of the urethra, which further goes on to weaken the urinary tract , which creates the symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, a condition when the person has to strain himself to urinate or the urine stream is weak.
When are you at risk of enlarged prostate-
Well known results have proved that aging, obesity and high blood sugar are some of the common factors that can cause Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Therefore maintaining a good diet and weight, and also keeping your blood sugar levels under proper control can help avoid situations of BPH.
Diagnosis for Enlarged Prostate
In order to diagnose an enlarged prostate, a detailed history of the person’s health is taken by your healthcare provider. This is followed by a physical examination, that includes a DRE. A urine test (urinalysis) and PSA blood levels are advised.
Treatment
Enlarged prostate can be treated easily with the help of prescription drugs first, If these are of no much use, then there are certain surgical options that help relieve the symptoms. The urologist would decide what treatment is best for your condition.
