The prostate gland helps to produce semen in men during sexual activity. This gland is in the shape of a walnut and is placed just behind the bladder. Semen is the fluid which is rich in nutrients, and carries the sperm during
ejaculation. With age this prostate gland gets enlarged, this condition is known as benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). The prostate gland is controlled by a sex hormone called testosterone, which in turn is converted into another hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). High levels of DHT cause the enlargement of the prostate. Some diet that could help you to avoid BPH are listed below after research:

1. Vegetables

Diet purely consisting of dairy products and meat can increase the risk of prostate enlargement and cancer. A good quantity of vegetables to be included in the diet.

2. Berries

Berries are beneficial as they are an excellent source of antioxidants, that can remove free radicals. Eat more of strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.

3. Broccoli

Broccoli is to be included in your diet as they contain a chemical known as sulforaphane, known to target cancer cells and hence promote a healthy prostate. Eat broccoli, bokchoy, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and cabbage in
plenty.

4. Nuts

Nuts are very widely known to be rich in zinc which is present in the prostate, and helps balance levels of testosterone and DHT. Your diet must include nuts, shellfish and legumes.

5. Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits are high in vitamin C, which can help in prostate health, so eat oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit liberally.

6. Onions and Garlic

They are supposed to be helpful additions to your diet, though there is some research going on about these ingredients.
